In 2015 we started our journey to make the best wines we could from our vineyard. The process started the previous year when we select two blocks for their soil profile and location, pruning differently to the other blocks, aiming for even higher quality and lower yields.
At harvest, we carefully select 10 rows from the Shiraz in Block 5 for their fruit flavours, which were then fermented in two open fermenters for 9 days and pressed into new and old French hogsheads. Monitored throughout the aging process, barrels were graded and then regraded as the wine matured. After about 30 months in oak, the final barrel tasting was done.
Our mission for the Block Reserve Series is to identify the best blends from our Block wines. Five barrels have been selected from our Block 5 Shiraz and blended to make this outstanding example of what our vineyard can produce.
Dark and mysterious, like a choc cherry ripe waiting to be unwrapped. Aromas of cocoa, coffee, dark sour cherries and vanilla spring to life. A full body shiraz with layers of stewed plum, dark cherry, charred cedar and bitter chocolate. A smooth long finish entails with hints of vanilla and a faint herbaceous note.
