2016 was the second year we made our signature Block Reserve wines. We started the process starting in 2014, when we selected two blocks for their soil profile and location. We nurtured these blocks, always aiming for even higher quality, low yielding gems.
At harvest, we carefully selected 10 rows from the Shiraz in Block 5 for their outstanding flavour. Pressed into new and old French hogsheads following open ferment, we monitored and loved them through the aging process. Barrels were individually graded as the wine matured. After about 30 months in oak, the final barrel tasting was done and the Block Reserve Cabernet was brought to life.
Four barrels have been selected from our Block 5 Shiraz and blended to make this outstanding example of what our vineyard can produce.
Dark and mysterious, like a choc cherry ripe waiting to be unwrapped. Aromas of cocoa, coffee, dark sour cherries and vanilla spring to life. A full body Shiraz with layers of stewed plum, dark cherry, charred cedar and bitter chocolate. A smooth long finish entails with hints of vanilla and a faint herbaceous note.
